Did you know that security cameras that look like smoke detectors, sprinkler heads and other life safety or fire protection devices are illegal in Massachusetts?

Per Code of Mass Regulations 527 CMR Section 1.12.5.1.1

Fire Prevention Devices neither Designed nor Capable of Function.

“The installation or use, in any building, of any device or object that reasonable appears to be a smoke detector, sprinkler head, carbon monoxide alarm, heat detector or any other similar device, used for life safety or fire protection that is in fact, neither designed nor capable of performing such life safety or fire protection function, shall be prohibited.”

Also, 527 CMR is retroactive so any of these devices that are installed need to be removed.
