3 Licenses a Massachusetts Electronic Security Company Must Have

3 Licenses a Massachusetts Electronic Security Company Must Have

We run into unlicensed companies all the time, a lot of times its an out of state company doing electronic security work in Massachusetts, but you would be surprised that some local companies don’t have the required licensing at a company level and are sending unlicensed technicians to your site. Below are the 3 licenses that are required for all Massachusetts Electronic Security Integrators and all are searchable on the the Massachusetts Department of Professional Licensure: http://license.reg.state.ma.us/public/licque.asp

1. Systems Contractor License – The Systems Contractor license also known as the “C License” is issued by the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electricians and allows a company to perform security work in Massachusetts. This license must be in the company’s name and the license number must be displayed on all paperwork, invoices, business cards, trucks, etc.. the state of Massachusetts also allows a Master Electrician License (A License) in lieu of the C license and without this license a company cannot perform security work in Massachusetts.

2. Systems Technician License  – The Systems Technician license also known as the “D License” is issued by the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electricians. It allows individual technicians to perform the actual security work on your system. Each technician must carry his/her license on them at all times. The state of Massachusetts also allows a Journeyman Electrician License (B License) in lieu of the D license.

3. S License  – The S-license is issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and is required by law to perform security work in Massachusetts. Also, all employees working for the security company must have a “certificate of clearance”. A Certificate of Clearance certifies that an employee of an S-license holder has undergone a CORI inquiry, and has been approved to work for a company licensed to install security systems.
